What is Cumulative GPA Calculator?
Cumulative GPA is your average across every term so far, with each term weighted by the credits it contained. It is not the average of your term GPAs: a long record barely moves when a short term is added. This calculator has two modes. The first combines your current cumulative GPA and completed credits with a new term's GPA and credits to give the updated cumulative figure, and shows exactly how much it changed. The second reverses the problem — give it a target and it returns the term GPA you would need, flagging when that requires weighted courses or is simply out of reach.
Common Uses for Cumulative GPA Calculator
- Forecast your cumulative GPA before final grades are posted
- Find the term GPA needed to pull a 3.2 up to a 3.5
- Check how much one bad term really cost your average
- Set realistic goals when applying for scholarships with GPA cut-offs
The cumulative GPA formula
Quality points = GPA × credits. Add the quality points of the old record to those of the new term, then divide by the combined credits. The calculator shows quality points so you can sanity-check the arithmetic against a transcript, which lists the same numbers.
Planning around cut-offs
Many scholarships and graduate programmes round to two decimals, and a 3.49 versus a 3.50 is the difference between qualifying and not. Use the target mode to see how many credits of A work each remaining term must contain, then decide whether to add a graded summer course or retake a low grade.
