How it is calculated

Each grade is converted to grade points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0.0, with ±0.3 steps). Points are multiplied by the course credits, summed, then divided by total credits.

Example: A (4.0) in a 3-credit course + B (3.0) in a 4-credit course = (4.0×3 + 3.0×4) ÷ 7 = 3.43.

What is GPA Calculator with Credits?

A credit-weighted GPA is the version registrars actually record. Instead of averaging grades equally, each course's grade points are multiplied by its credit hours to give quality points, and the GPA is total quality points divided by total credits. That single change makes a four-credit course count twice as much as a two-credit one, which is why the same letter grades can produce different GPAs from different course loads. In a credit-weighted system, the courses that matter most are the ones with the most credits — not the ones you find hardest or enjoy most. Reading the credit hours of each course at registration time is therefore as important as reading the syllabus, because a five-credit course that goes wrong costs five credits' worth of quality points to repair.

Track quality points rather than the GPA alone when planning recovery. To raise a cumulative average you need to add quality points at a rate above your current GPA: from 3.20 over 90 credits, each 3-credit A adds 12 points against a 3.20 pace, so progress is slow and measurable.
